California man killed his mom, then stabbed his wife at a hospital before turning the knife on himself, authorities say

A man in California is facing murder and attempted murder charges after allegedly killing his mother at a Vallejo home and then stabbing his wife at a hospital before turning the knife on himself, authorities said.

According to a press release from the Vallejo Police Department, the violent chain of events unfolded on Saturday morning, beginning with a homicide at a residence and culminating in a stabbing at Kaiser Permanente hospital.

Around 8:43 a.m., officers were called to the hospital after reports of a stabbing incident. Upon arrival, they found two individuals being treated for stab wounds– Frank James McMillan, 63, and his wife.

Investigators determined that McMillan had stabbed his wife at least once before inflicting self-injury. Both were rushed into surgery, and medical professionals later confirmed that their injuries were non-life-threatening.

After regaining consciousness post-surgery, McMillan made a startling confession. Police say he “spontaneously admitted” to killing his mother earlier that morning at a home on the 100 block of Campbell Avenue in Vallejo, part of the San Francisco Bay Area.

Officers conducted a welfare check at the address, forcing entry when no one responded. Inside, they discovered the body of McMillan’s mother. Authorities have not disclosed the manner of her death or released her identity, pending notification of next of kin.

McMillan is expected to face charges of murder and attempted murder. Once discharged from the hospital, he will be transferred to the Solano County Jail.

While police have yet to announce a motive for the brutal acts, the hospital confirmed that McMillan’s wife had been a patient at the time of the attack. In a statement, Kaiser Permanente expressed gratitude to its staff for their swift response during the incident.

“We’re grateful to our staff members who acted quickly to intervene and provide care to those involved,” the statement read. “This was an isolated event … We are cooperating with the Vallejo Police Department as they conduct their investigation.”
