Brandon Durham, a 43-year-old father and realtor in Las Vegas, Nevada, called 911 in fear for his life when a woman entered his home with a knife.
Tragically, Durham did not survive the night—allegedly killed by the very police officers he had called for help.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) held a press conference led by Assistant Sheriff Dori Koren to share details of the incident that occurred on November 12, releasing bodycam footage to the public.
Durham reportedly called 911 after hearing what he believed to be gunfire near his home. He informed the dispatcher that two individuals appeared to be shooting at and attempting to break into his residence.
During the call, he stated that he was going to barricade himself in the bathroom for safety.
Three LVMPD officers arrived at the scene at 12:40 a.m., observing visible damage to the property and vehicles outside, as well as screams coming from within the home. Officer Alexander Bookman announced their presence and kicked in the front door to enter.
Inside, the officers reportedly found Durham and a woman, later identified as 31-year-old Alejandra Boudreaux, in what appeared to be a physical struggle near a bedroom doorway.
Both were holding onto a large knife. Bookman ordered the individual holding the knife to drop it, but neither person complied. Bookman then fired a single shot, striking Durham.
Durham collapsed, taking Boudreaux down with him. While Durham lay on the ground, Bookman fired five additional shots, killing him. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
Boudreaux was arrested and charged with multiple crimes, including home invasion with a deadly weapon, assault with a deadly weapon, child endangerment (referring to Durham’s 15-year-old daughter, Isabella, who was in the house during the incident), and an act of willful disregard resulting in death.
Authorities described Boudreaux as someone known to Durham, but they did not clarify the nature of their relationship.
The LVMPD has launched an internal review of the officers’ use of force.
Durham’s family, however, is demanding answers and justice, expressing outrage at the police’s handling of the situation. His teenage daughter, Isabella, denounced the LVMPD’s narrative, accusing them of misrepresenting events.
“I am disgusted with the Metropolitan Police,” Isabella said. “The fact that they wrongfully shot my dad and then tried to spin the narrative…none of that is true. My father was treated like a suspect when he was the victim. And now, I’m left fatherless for the rest of my life.”
Durham’s partner, Rachael Gore, shared similar sentiments and suggested that racial bias played a role in the shooting. “What are you looking at? Not the colors of the clothes—you’re looking at the color of the skin, and that’s why he’s dead,” she said.
To cover funeral costs, Gore has started a GoFundMe campaign while continuing to demand accountability from the police department.
