Joshua Hunsucker, a former paramedic from North Carolina, was ordered to remain in custody after being accused of poisoning both his wife, Stacy Hunsucker, and later, their 10-year-old daughter with eye drops.
Prosecutors allege Hunsucker used tetrahydrozoline, a toxic chemical in Visine, to kill Stacy in 2018. Her death was initially believed to be from natural causes, attributed to known heart issues, as Hunsucker had requested no autopsy and a rapid cremation.
However, forensic testing on her organs, conducted due to her being an organ donor, revealed the presence of tetrahydrozoline, which led to suspicions of poisoning.
In August 2023, Hunsucker was accused of poisoning his daughter in a similar manner, prompting the child’s grandparents, John and Suzie Robinson, to petition the court to revoke his bond.
The Robinsons claimed Hunsucker had repeatedly harassed them and tried to blame both his wife’s and daughter’s poisonings on them. They allege he had followed them, attempted to intimidate them, and even staged a kidnapping to accuse them falsely.
In one instance, Hunsucker reported that Robinson had attacked him during a tire change, claiming he was pistol-whipped and injected with an unknown substance, though police found no evidence to support this account.
The court filing states that Hunsucker’s alleged poisoning of his daughter was a tactic to implicate the Robinsons in Stacy’s death, thereby aiming to remove them from his daughters’ lives.
Hunsucker’s bond was initially set at $1.5 million for the murder charge, which he posted in December 2019. With the new charges related to his daughter’s poisoning and alleged harassment of the Robinsons, he faces additional counts of intimidation of a witness and obstruction of justice.
