Ohio man who ‘crushed’ girlfriend’s skull with hammer, left body in trash at Mother Goose-themed park sentenced to 29 years in prison

A man in Ohio will spend decades behind bars for the brutal murder of his girlfriend, who was beaten to death with a hammer and discarded in a trash can at a local park.

Stark County Common Pleas Court Judge Frank Forchione sentenced 27-year-old Sean Goe to 29 years to life in prison for the killing of 24-year-old Raychel Sheridan, a case described as one of the most heinous the judge had encountered in his 17 years on the bench.

The murder occurred on July 2, 2024, when deputies responded to a missing person report for Sheridan at her home in Plain Township.

Evidence later revealed that Sheridan was killed inside the apartment she shared with Goe. She was struck at least 10 times in the head with a hammer, resulting in devastating injuries that made her unrecognizable.

Sheridan’s body was found the following day, wrapped in plastic and dumped in a trash can at Mother Goose Land park in Canton, Ohio.

The discovery was made by sanitation workers during a routine garbage collection. Prosecutors said Goe treated Sheridan “like a piece of trash,” underscoring the cruelty of his actions.

Shortly after the initial missing person report, deputies spotted Sheridan’s maroon Jeep Liberty being driven by Goe, who fled on foot after a traffic stop. Police later apprehended him at a homeless shelter on outstanding warrants, including domestic violence charges involving Sheridan.

A search of the couple’s apartment uncovered key evidence linking Goe to the murder, including a hammer used as the murder weapon and other items containing DNA from both Goe and Sheridan.

Prosecutors argued that Goe had every reason to commit the crime and hide Sheridan’s body, a conclusion backed by overwhelming forensic evidence.

Goe was convicted of multiple charges, including murder, felonious assault, gross abuse of a corpse, tampering with evidence, burglary and grand theft of a firearm.

During sentencing, Judge Forchione described the murder as “the most brutal” he had ever seen. He detailed the extent of Sheridan’s injuries, including a massive hole in her skull and a collapsed cranial cavity.

“For what you’ve done, you’ve sold your soul to the devil,” Judge Forchione said, explaining his decision to impose consecutive maximum sentences. “You’ve committed the worst form of the offense, and I see a great likelihood you would commit a future crime. I can’t help you.”

Sheridan’s murder has left a lasting scar on her community and family. Prosecutors highlighted the unimaginable violence of the crime, while Goe’s defense argued that investigators were biased in targeting him.
