Super star actor Arnold Schwarzenegger pledges to donate $1 million to LA wildfire relief

Arnold Schwarzenegger is stepping up to support Los Angeles during a time of crisis.

The 77-year-old actor and former California governor announced on Instagram on January 21 that he is donating $1 million to aid in relief efforts following a series of devastating wildfires in Los Angeles.

Schwarzenegger shared that the donation will be split among three organizations: the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation (@lafdfoundation), the California Fire Foundation (@cafirefound), and Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (@habitatla).

“A lot of my fans have asked me how they can help L.A. I’m going to lead the way,” he wrote in the post. “I’m sending a million dollars of my own money… I don’t like when companies or rich people ask their fans to make their donations for them.”

To encourage additional support, Schwarzenegger revealed that his team designed a t-shirt featuring his likeness and the phrase “L.A. Strong.” All profits from the shirt’s sales will be donated to the same organizations.

The wildfires, which first erupted on January 7, have caused widespread devastation. Tens of thousands of residents, including celebrities such as Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Joshua Jackson, and Anna Faris, have been displaced. The fires have also claimed at least 27 lives, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.

While some fires, like the Eaton Fire, are nearing containment, new threats continue to emerge. The Hughes Fire, which started on January 22, has already grown to over 3,400 acres and is currently 0% contained, according to Cal Fire.

Schwarzenegger’s charitable efforts are nothing new. In November, he volunteered at a youth center in East L.A. for Thanksgiving, continuing a decades-long tradition of donating turkeys. “Giving back is, to me, everything,” he said at the time.
